DISTRICT League team Ardeer Thistle made an 80-mile round trip all in vain for a second time on Saturday.

The Stevenston side were scheduled to face Kello Rovers at Kirkconnel and had a call from the host club at 9.45am to say that the pitch was playable.

However not long after they arrived at 12.45pm, the match referee called the game off as the pitch was waterlogged and the players all had to return home.

It's the second time in a year Ardeer have suffered a late call-off at Nithside Park and secretary Peter McBlain is now hoping to re-coup some money following the call-off.

He said: "It took us over an hour to travel down and Kello said the pitch was fine in the morning., it was a wasted trip. The same thing happened to us there last year and we don't want to be out of pocket so I will make a claim to the West Region of the SJFA to cover the players' expenses,"

Meanwhile Kilbirnie Ladeside boss Stephen Swift was disappointed not to take all three points as his side drew 1-1 away to Petershill.

He was still pleased with the effort and said: "We had chances to win the game but we have been going well in the league. and it was a wonder goal from Steven Meechan,

Beith manager Johnny Millar was disappointed to lose 4-2 at Pollok but could still take positives and said: "We were on a good run before Saturday so I can't be too harsh on the players. We are at home to Maybole in the West of Scotland Cup. It will be tough but I am hopeful of progressing. It wodl be good to still be in the West of Scotland Cup after Christmas."
