SALTCOATS VICTORIA 2

DALRY THISTLE 6

DALRY powered their way to a comfortable victory against indisciplined Saltcoats Vics,

Dalry came out the traps flying and inside the first minute goalkeeper Jim Catterson touched the ball onto the top of the crossbar and it was then cleared for a corner.

The keeper was again in more early action, saving from Greig Morrison.

It was breathless stuff and an early booking was given to big centre back George Bonner for a tackle from behind.

Chances came for Dalry with a shot from Craig Marshall hitting the side netting and for Saltcoats Joe Young turned and shot straight at goalkeeper Sean Summers.

The main threat from Saltcoats was coming from Young and his speed got him in behind the defence but his shot was matched by a fine save from Summers.

The opening goal came in 21 minutes.. The referee adjudged there had been a foul just inside the box and awarded the a penalty-kick. Greig McVeigh stayed cool and scored from the spot.

Saltcoats threatened when Liam Curran curled a shot wide, before the hosts levelled in 32 minutes when Young crossed to Curran who levelled..

In 38 minutes Young's header come back off the post.

Then a minute later Saltcoats took the lead. A free-kick 30 yards out was floated into the box by Sean Quinn and with the help of the wind the ball went straight into the net.

However Dalry levelled before the break. From a free-kick wide left David Mills got just enough on the ball to deflect it into the net.

Dalry began well after the break and two minutes in, a corner-kick on the left was only partially cleared and Brown turned the ball into the net at the second attempt.

Mills got in behind the defence but chose to shoot from 22 yards.

Then Mills had a shot blocked on the line by Bonner, and at the other end a a Quinn effort went just wide.

The game started to go wrong for Saltcoats in 54 minutes when Alan Weaver was sent off for a crunching tackle from behind.

Dalry began to dominate and Jordan Stuart shot just over from a lay-back before in 58 minutes McVeigh shot home from 18 yards.

Saltcoats were reduced to nine men in 64 minutes when Ryan.McKie was late with a tackle from the back, and then kicked out, giving the referee little choice other than to show the red card.

Vics manager Derek Frye walked across the park to complain to the referee and he was duly sent to the dressing room for his efforts.

Mills got on the end of a low cross on 68 minutes to make it 5 - 2. McVeigh then had a shot off the post. The sixth goal came 10 minutes from time when Mills got on the end of a cross to complete his hat-trick.
