THE hockey girls travelled to Glasgow on Saturday to take on GHK in the first of their weekend league games.

Ardrossan dominated the first half with speedy Linny Fisher and Lauren Stevenston. causing problems.

They went ahead when Kirsty Blackstock’s shot was deflected in by the alert Tara Mair.

The second followed when Lauren Stevenston went on a run before passing to Jenna Gossman, who pulled the defender before slipping it wide to Fisher who then scored from a well placed shot.

Amanda Stewart added the third from a powerful Fiona Matthews shot following a lovely pass from Jenna Gossman.

After the break Ardrossan took their foot off the pedal and GHK hit back with three quick goals.

However in true Ardrossan spirit, the girls fought back with five minutes to go, when Kirsty Blackstock played a lovely ball into the circle for Tara Mair, Tara then played the ball into the path of Fiona Matthews, who made no mistake from close range. An edgy ending to a game Ardrossan should have won comfortably. Player of the match was Fiona Matthews.

GARNOCK 0

ARDROSSAN hosted local rivals Garnock in this league encounter at St Matthew's Academy.

The home side dominated the first half and scored three well-worked goals.

The first came from a penalty corner when Fiona Matthews powerful shot rebounded to Linny Fisher to finish. The second was also from a short corner with Kirsty Blackstock scoring.

Chances were falling thick and fast for Ardrossan but the Garnock goalkeeper was in superb form. She was helpless with the third goal as Lauren Stevenston sped upfield sending in a lovely cross for Daniela Young to deflect in.

Garnock gave the Ardrossan defence cause for worry at times but Ardrossan’s Mhairi Dale made a a double save to thwart the danger.

Gill Jack and newcomer Isla Thomson were in fine form at the back.

The final goal came when Jenna Gossman played in Fiona Matthews. The Garnock goalkeeper made a terrific save from her powerful shot but Daniela Young netted the rebound. Joint player of the match went to wings Lauren Stevenston and Linny Fisher who both outstripped the Garnock defence with their skill and pace.

ARDROSSAN played GHK in this away fixture on Saturday with a young team.

They were 2-0 down at half-time but rallied back in the second half with goals from Kate Parker and debutante Rosie Watkins from Marr College.

They were stung late on in the game with the winner coming from a disputed goal.

Player-of the-match was Kate Parker.

GIFFNOCK 0

THE girls made up for Saturday’s disappointment with a mauling of Giffnock at St Matthew's Academy on Sunday.

Having the experience of Donna Rogers and Laura Anderson playing gave the girls confidence.

The goals were scored by Kate Parker (2), Louise Duncan, Fiona Johnston, Laura Anderson and Alysanne Wilson. Joint players-of -he match were defender Laura Anderson and striker Louise Duncan.
