ETHX Energy Scottish Junior Cup Fourth Round

SCONE THISTLE 1

BEITH JUNIORS 5

BEITH moved comfortably into the last 16 with an efficient performance against lower ranked opponents, getting the job done without any dramas.

The visitors opened confidently and early pressure resulted in an all-important opening goal after five minutes when the hosts failed to clear from a corner, allowing Nicky Docherty to sweep the ball home in a crowded box. cone tried to respond and a free kick into the Beith box caused some danger before being headed wide.

However Beith continued pressing with Darren Christie causing the home defence all sorts of problems.

In 20 minutes Darren Christie doubled the Bellsdale Park side's lead when he arrived to head home a Calum Watt cross after a fine move involving Kenny McLean and Andy Reid.

The poor playing surface severely hampered silky soccer and bizarrely play was even halted on two occasions to remove canine deposits from the pitch.

Beith overcame this difficulty and the efforts of the beleaguered hosts to add another on the half hour when Paul Frize picked up a scrambled clearance on the edge of the box

and shot home. Virtual one-way traffic continued with Beith refusing to take their foot of the gas and Andy Reid went close to adding to the advantage on two occasions before the break.

The visitors had the luxury of a second half with the outcome virtually sealed barring a complete catastrophe. Substitutions were made but the contest continued in the same vein as the first half with Beith well in control.

Scone also contributed to make the task even easier for Beith when young midfielder Whytock was given a second yellow card for verbals towards the referee.

Lively substituteThomas Collins saw home keeper Rice deny him by making a brave stop with his legs before he found the net shortly after, finding space to head home a Richie Burke corner-kick.

Beith played as good football as the surface would permit and found the net again from a nice move when man-of-the-match candidate Nicky Docherty arrived in the box to slam home a fine Andy Reid cross.

The hosts had seen few chances come their way but they managed to grab a consolation goal a few minutes before the end when a shot from the edge of the box took a deflection and ended up behind Stephen Grindlay.

BEITH: Grindlay; Ryan, Docherty, MacDonald, Sheridan, Martin, Frize, Christie, MCLean, Reid, Watt. Subs: Burke, Collins, Clark, McArthur, Duncan.
