ANGRY Beith goalscorer Thomas Collins this week hit out at a crucial refereeing decision which he says cost his side victory at the weekend.

The 19-year-old former Queens Park striker., who joined the club at the start of the season, looked to have been sent tumbling inside the box in the final minute of Saturday's Premier Division match against his former club Kirkintilloch Rob Roy.

However play was waved on and the visitors went on to score right at the death to secure a 2-2 draw.

Substitute Collins, who scored the second goal was disappointed with the decision but impressed with his team's performance and said: "I was defending a corner and the Rob Roy player caught me with his leg. It was a foul and play should have been stopped but they went on to score with the last kick of the ball and that cost us the win. We played well and created so many chances. It was disappointing not to win the game.

"But we have a good squad at Beith with a lot of experienced players. The league is quite tight this season but I would hope we could finish in the top half of the table and we also aim to reach the quarter-finals of the Scottish Junior Cup and the West of Scotland Cup. "

Meanwhile Beith Juniors manager Johnny Millar was also disappointed with the decision but feels his side should have won the match and said "I thought play should have been stopped for a foul although sometimes mistakes are made. We had enough chances to win the game but did not take them. We must start converting some of our draws into wins and hopefully we can start climbing the table and focus on the cup ties."

The boss is also relishing the visit to face former club Arthurlie and said: "Myself and the coach Stevie played at Arthurlie and that adds an edge to the game. Hopefully we can take three points."

Saltcoats Victoria boss Derek Frye is staying upbeat despite this team's 2-1 home defeat against leaders Irvine Victoria and said: "We played well but lost two goals at the worst time just before the break."

Kilbirnie Ladeside host Troon on Saturday and manager Stephen Swift said: "We are going well in the league and are looking to win."
