FULLARTON Wheelers started their week with a club run last Monday evening where 11 riders turned out for some fresh air.

With the annual diary planning meeting taking place in the Gailes Hotel later that evening, a short 20-mile route ventured through Loans and the outskirts of Troon before ascending the Kerrix Road into Symington.

Here the bunch regrouped before heading down towards Dundonald, Drybridge and back to Gailes for the meeting.

In such a thriving club, the calendar needs careful planning to include favourite away days to Inveraray, Aberfoyle and of course the three ferries route, whilst combing the open Time Trial events and the club summer league. The club's two exceptional British Cycling accredited club coaches have also built a programme of skills evenings this summer designed to improve riders new and experienced. The traditional season-opening Ice Breaker 2- Up time trial will take place on Sunday, February 21.

Sadly the regular fast training run to Largs was postponed on Saturday due to Storm Gertrude and that led to many heading to the barn for some indoor training.

Seven determined wheelers made it to Irvine Cross for the Sunday morning run, living in hope that the storm from the past few days had now subsided.

The freshening wind and forecast rain had the bunch avoiding the coast for a clockwise tour of the Ayrshire Counties. From Irvine, the journey headed up Middleton Road to Cunninghamhead, Kilmaurs and out onto the old A77.

After a few miles heading north, the bunch turn onto the rolling road through Waterside, Moscow and Galston.

A left turn and up the climb to Sornhill added much need heat into the riders as they picked their route back through Mauchline, Craigie, Dundonald and Drybridge and back to Irvine before heading their separate ways. An easy-paced run of 45 miles in some mixed weather.
