IT was a busy weekend for Ardrossan hockey with both the first and second team in action on Saturday and the semi-final of the West District Plate for the first team on Sunday.

Both teams took three points on Saturday with first team beating bottom of the league side Cumbernauld 5-0.

The team dominated the game throughout not allowing Cumbernauld even a shot on goal. Sophie Andrews netted a hat-trick and Kirsty Blackstock and Amanda Stewart were also on target.

The second team pulled out a great performance away in Glasgow with only 10 players to win 7-3. Goals came from Molly McNeil, Lidia Carbonell, Lauren Stevenson and four from captain Kate Parker.

The full team put in so much effort they didn't look like they were a player short. A special mention goes to Sarah McLeod playing in goals who made some great saves to keep Ardrossan in control of the game.

On Sunday the first team travelled to Auchenhowie to face Wildcats in the plate semi-final.

The team travelled with a bare 11 with many unable to play both days. Tired legs played a part in the performance as a very fired-up Wildcats side showed more energy in the game, putting the Ardrossan defence under a lot of pressure.

While the defence soaked up the pressure the team failed to break with their usual pace, and all but one of the shots they had missed the target. The scoreline finished 1-1 taking the game to penalties, which the Ardrossan side lost 7-5 in sudden death flicks, ending their plate run.
