UNDERDOGS Buffs had their Cup dreams shattered by a ruthless Talbot side who underlined their pedigree in the national competition.

Two early goals from brothers Graham and Steven Wilson paved the way for victory against a visiting side who had defeated fancied Kelly Hearts in the last 16.

Talbot blasted into the lead just a minute in when a free-kick from Gordon Pope was powerfully headed home from six yards by Graham Wilson.

Buffs had an opening in three minutes when a shot from the edge of the box by Bryan Boylan was blocked by a defender and the ball broke back to the same player who shot over the bar from 14 yards.

Talbot troubled Buffs again in seven minutes when a Dwayne Hyslop header from a Bryan Young corner-kick was deflected over the bar.

Back at the other end in 10 minutes Sam McCloskey aimed a pass at Boylan but the ball spun out of play.

Ben Lewis picked up a loose ball on the edge of the box but saw his effort blocked by a defender. However in 15 minutes Talbot doubled their tally when Stephen Wilson shot low into the bottom corner from 14 yards.

Buffs had a good chance in 21 minutes when a low Ricky Hanvey from 12 yards was confidently saved by Andy Leishman.

Then at the other end in 24 minutes, Adam Strain made a stunning save to keep out a netbound shot from Bryan Young and Graham Wilson hit the post with the rebound

Buffs came close in 37 minutes when a Liam McGuinness shot was tipped over the bar by Leishman.Th

The visitors began the second half well and came close seven minutes in when a Sam McCloskey effort from the edge of the box was deflected wide.

Talbot were denied a penalty in 58 minutes when Dwayne Hyslop appeared to be pushed in the box by Findlay Frye.

Strain made a stunning save to keep out a Keir Milliken effort in 62 minutes.

Hyslop headed narrowly wide in 67 minutes and from the resultant corner Strain somehow kept out a Steven White header.

Buffs appealed in vain for a penalty for a handball in the box in 78 minutes but Talbot were home and dry.
