FRIENDSHIP will be put firmly on hold on Saturday as Ardrossan Winton Rovers host Maybole in a crunch District League clash.

In the opposite dug-out from home boss Sandy MacLean will be his former player Carlo Walker who will be looking to spring an upset.

Leaders Winton must look to win their remaining two league matches - Muirkirk visit a week on Saturday - and also rely on slips by Whitletts Vics, Kello Rovers or Darvel to stand a realistic chance of promotion.

MacLean said: "Carlo played for me when I managed Beith and we are good friends. But we will focus on the football. Carlo was very committed and his teams are just like him so we expect a tough match against Maybole. All we can do is concentrate on ourselves and get the job done.

"I expect Darvel will win the league but we can't influence what Whitletts or Kello do. The aim is to pick up three points and see where that takes us."

The boss was encouraged with his side's display as they defeated Kello 2-0 away in an Ayrshire Weekly Press Cup first round tie.

He said: "We played well and dominated the match, it was good to win after losing there in the league a while ago."
