Ayrshire Weekly Press Cup First Round

HURLFORD UNITED 1

KILWINNING RANGERS 1 (Kilwinning won 4-1 on penalties)

HEROIC goalkeeper Adam Strain saved three penalties as Buffs bounced back from their Scottish Cup defeat against Talbot by edging out Premier Division rivals 'Ford at Blair Park.

The visitors paraded their two new recruits, defender Mike Morris, secured from Fauldhouse and striker Lewis Morrison, on loan from Kilmarnock.

Early on Strain saved a penalty, following a foul by Bryan Boylan.

Buffs then had four good opportunities, with Morrison and Boylan both coming close, Carlo Monti sending an effort wide and Darren Moffat shooting over the bar.

Midway through the second half the visitors made the breakthrough when Monti set up substitute Ian Cashmore, who blasted the ball home from 18 yards.

Just as if it looked Buffs were home and dry, Hurlford scored fully four minutes into injury-time when Ross Fisher netted to force spot kicks.

Into the shootout and Ben Lewis, Ricky Hanvey, Tommy Maitland and Sam McCloskey were on target for Buffs. Strain saved two penalties, including one from former Killie striker and Ayr United manager Mark Roberts to set up a home second round clash with Darvel.

KILWINNING RANGERS: Strain; Coleman, Maitland, Swift, Morris, Frye, Lewis, Boylan, Morrison, Moffat, Monti. Subs: Fleeting, Hanvey, McCloskey, McGuinness, Cashmore.
