A STAMINA-sapping camp was enjoyed by budding athletes from across the community when they descended on the North Ayrshire Athletics Arena at the KA Campus, Saltcoats.

More than 50 school-age children enjoyed the successful four-day camp which was held during the Easter holidays and run by the award-winning North Ayrshire Athletics Club.

A mix of hard work, athletics tuition and fun games was enjoyed by the promising young athletes, all of whom were given a special t-shirt and water bottle as a gift for their participation in the camp.

The camps, now a regular feature of school holidays, have gone from strength to strength with hundreds enjoying coaching in all aspects of athletics.

The athletes at this camp, which was run by Senior Coaches, Junior Coaches and volunteers, were lucky enough to receive two days coaching from the Scottish Under-20 record holder and training partner of world number one Laura Muir, local Beith girl Jemma Reekie.

Jemma, just back from a training camp in the South of France, followed by the Sky Sports TV camera was down at the track on the Wednesday and Thursday.

A particularly pleasing aspect of this camp was the involvement of some of the clubs older youth athletes who are on the Coach Apprentice Scheme.

They gave up their own school holidays to help the next generation of local athletes.
