Ayrshire Weekly Press Cup Second Round

ARDROSSAN WINTON ROVERS 5

SALTCOATS VICTORIA 1

WINTON completed a hat-trick of wins this season against their derby rivals as they eased to victory on Friday night.

Victory set up a mouthwatering tie away to Premier Division Troon or Auchinleck Talbot.

The game drew a fairly sizeable crowd to a dry but cold Winton Park.

The first 15 minutes were fairly even with visiting player Paul Weaver firing a free-kick wide in 12 minutes and at the other end a Caddis set-piece was cleared.

Larry McMahon won the ball for the hosts on the left and cut inside but his shot from the edge of the box was blocked and cleared.

In 24 minutes home goalie Dylan Caddis came out to clear before Brett McKenzie could get in a shot. Two minutes later Winton finally took the lead when Ryan Caddis made a good run before crossing to the back post where Jordan Cairnie knocked the ball home from close range.

In 40 minutes Paul Weaver hit a 35-yard free kick wide and two minutes later it was 2-0 when Ross Kearns crossed to the back post and although visiting goalie Jim Catterson saved Jordan Cairnie’s header the ball went up in the air and Steven Tan was on hand to head home.

The hosts scored again in 52 minutes when Ryan Caddis chased a long ball to the edge of the box and Jim Catterson came out to meet him but only blocked the ball which deflected to Jordan Cairnie who fired into the empty net.

Vics had a chance in 62 minutes when Sean Quinn forced a good save from Dylan Caddis. A minute later McMahon scored from 15 yards after good work by Ryan Caddis and the same player ended the Winton scoring in 65 minutes with a 15-yard shot.

Saltcoats however ended the scoring in 84 minutes when veteran Michael Hart beat the offside trap, ran in on goal and as Dylan Caddis came well out of his goal, the centre half chipped the ball into the net.
