BEITH 3

AUCHINLECK TALBOT 0

RUTHLESS Beith toppled Talbot with a top drawer performance to shatter their title dreams.

It was sweet revenge following their Scottish Junior Cup defeat in January, with Glenafton winning the league following their success against Rob Roy.

Beith were on top from the off and had Talbot on the back foot as they shot down the slope. David McGowan came close in seven minutes when he headed Bradley’s cross just wide.

The hosts threatened again in 16 minutes. Joe Bradley cut in past Keir Milliken into the penalty area before firing a shot across goal and wide.

Talbot had a rare chance in 18 minutes. Stevie Wilson won the ball 30 yards out and made a beeline for the box. He had Dylan Pooler spare to his right but opted to go for goal and shot wide.

The opening goal came in 25 minutes. Andy Leishman lifted the ball down the right where Milliken headed it in field. Richie Burke latched onto it and released an early ball down the centre where Ross "Archie" McPherson raced onto it and lobbed the ball over Leishman.

Home skipper John Sheridan was booked in 35 minutes for a body check on Graham Wilson.

Talbot had a chance in the last minute of the half when Milliken crossed to the back post where Craig McCracken headed over the bar from six yards.

Any hopes Talbot entertained of a comeback were effectively ended in 55 minutes with Beith’s second goal. McPherson sped onto a ball over the top and whilst he was halted before he could get a shot away, the ball broke out to Joe Bradley, who hammered home an unstoppable shot.

Talbot had an injury scare just after the hour when Bryan Young fell awkwardly and took a bad head knock. After a lengthy spell of treatment he groggily left the field.

With five minutes remaining Beith completed the scoring.

Watt was played in down the right and although Leishman spread himself well to block his first effort, he was helpless to prevent him slotting home the rebound.
