Ayrshire Schools Under-14 Cup Final
KILMARNOCK ACADEMY 3
ST MATTHEW'S ACADEMY 3 (St Matthew's won 4-2 on penalties)
HEROIC goalkeeper Jack Taylor saved two penalties in a pulsating shootout as St Matthew's saw off their East Ayrshire rivals at Dam Park Stadium on Wednesday.
This was a cracking game, with end-to-end action and the North Ayrshire side took the lead with a Curtis Lees header in 21 minutes.
Kilmarnock equalised in 40 minutes minutes to leave it all-square.
In the second half, both sides had chances before captain Callum Wardrope gave St. Matthew's a 2-1 lead from the penalty spot with Kilmarnock equalising moments later.
Dylan Cassidy thought he had won the game late on for St. Matthew's with a superb strike, however an unfortunate own-goal led to Kilmarnock taking the game to penalties.
With two superb penalty saves from man-of-the-match Jack Taylor, St. Matthew's left Dam Park with the coveted trophy.
