THEY think it’s all over.. and it is now, however this year’s ADP (Alcohol and Drug Partnership) Cup was a thriller.

Hosted by FITba4u, last week’s seventh annual tournament saw service users take on staff from a number of partner agencies at Kilwinning Sports Club and as ever the competition proved intense.

The event was designed to showcase the project to the wider community and allow the group’s participants to present their friends and family with what they do.

On the day, staff ran out 4-2 winners in a closely-contested 11-a-side match which was organised by partner agencies and group participants.

FITba4u is an award-winning structured sport, employability and health programme designed to help residents build confidence, improve their fitness and meet new people.

It is open to anyone aged over 16 who is unemployed or in part-time or full time education, people who are homeless or under threat of homelessness, or those who are accessing addiction or mental health services.

The group aims to allow people to develop new skills, qualifications and goals, with a view to helping them into employment, education and training.

This is achieved through weekly sessions which combines a working discussion on social issues along with football or gym-related activities.

Craig Potter of Onside Ayrshire who provide the FITba4u project was encouraged with how the competition went and said: “The event was all about raising awareness of the project and saying thanks to the Alcohol and Drug Partnership for its continued support and funding. It also allowed the participants to showcase the work they do to their families and friends and to let them see that the project is much more than a game of football.”

Mark Gallagher, Lead Officer of the North Ayrshire Alcohol Drug Partnership, who presented the trophy to the winners, said: “I would like to congratulate everyone who helped to make this event such a success. Although the staff ran out winners on the day it was a fantastic afternoon and everyone involved should be proud of their efforts.”

FITba4u meets every Tuesday at Kilwinning Sports Club. For more information or details of timings contact Craig Potter on 07469719175.
