FORMER Ayr United starlet Peter McGill is one of three new signings snapped up by new Kilbirnie Ladeside manager Budgie McGhie.

McGill (20), who was a fringe first team player at Somerset Park after being promoted from the youth academy, is reunited with the new boss after playing for him at Clydebank last season.

Also heading to Valefield Park are former Dundee United and Irvine Meadow midfielder Gavin Stokes (24), who joins from Super First Division team Maryhill, along with defender Cory Hughes (20) from Greenock Juniors.

Budgie is excited by his new signings and said: "Peter was with me at Clydebank and previously at Ayr and on loan to Troon. He is a good young player who can be used in wide areas or just behind the frontmen. Gavin was at Dundee United as a youngster and scored a wonder goal for Maryhill against Clydebank last season. Cory had a good season, winning the Player of the Year and Player's Player of the Year at Greenock last season."

He added: "I am still looking to add other players to the squad and will see who becomes available."

Meanwhile Ladeside have been given an added boost with the news that goalkeeper Kieran Hughes, Kyle Rafferty, Mick O'Byrne, Ross McKinnon and David Anderson have all re-signed from last season.

Striker Adam Forde, who was a key player last season, is attracting interest from a number of other clubs, although he has also been offered a deal by Ladeside. The manager has still to talk to a number of other players from last term.

Meanwhile Beith Juniors boss Johnny Millar is looking to end the season with some silverware.

The Bellsdale Park side head to Townhead Park to face Cumnock in the semi-finals of the Ayrshire Weekly Press Cup tonight (Wednesday).

Millar said: "We will have five or six out through work, suspension or injury but we will go down there with a decent enough team. We want to retain the trophy. Cumnock are a very good side going forward, but hopefully we can get through."

A testimonial match is planned for long-serving Beith Juniors striker Kenny McLean next month.

The first team will take on a Beith Juniors All Stars Select, which will include some of the players who won the league with McLean in 2009-10 and other familiar faces from the past.

The game is scheduled for Saturday, July 15, ko 2pm at Bellsdale Park. Tickets priced £5 are payable at the gate on the day and a souvenir programme will be on sale.
