FORMER Celtic youths starlet Calum Waters has been snapped up by Kilmarnock FC boss Lee McCulloch.

The 21-year-old defender last week put pen to paper on a new two-year deal as the countdown continues to the start of the new season.

Calum started his youth career at Celtic, before having a loan spell at Dumbarton in July 2015.

Then he left the Glasgow side in May 2016 to join Alloa Athletic, where he made 36 appearances for "The Wasps".

Manager McCulloch is delighted to have the young player on board and said: “Calum fits in perfectly with the philosophy of the club. He had a great season with Alloa last season and made the team of the year. In my opinion, Calum was the best left-back in the country last season, outwith the top league. I am more than confident that Calum will step up and do well in the Ladbrokes Premiership. Calum’s a level headed boy that wants to improve every day. And we are delighted to have him here."

Calum added: ”I’m really happy to be here and can’t wait to get started. I’m a player that will give it my all and fight for every ball. I would like to gain more experience and I feel I am more than capable to make the step up to the top league.”

Everyone at Kilmarnock FC wishes the new recruit every success for the coming season.
