Ardagh Glass League Cup

ARDEER THISTLE 0

IRVINE MEADOW 2

SUPER First Division Meadow proved too strong for lower league Thistle, who had lost 4-2 on Wednesday to derby rivals Saltcoats Vics.

The visitors looked the more likely to score in the first half. Skipper Ben Carson hit the upright with a speculative half volley and saw another effort go wide from 12 yards while Jared Willet shot over the bar from distance. Ryan Begley squandered the best opportunity, heading wide when rising unchallenged to meet Lee McCrea's corner kick.

Thistle didn't get much change out of the Meadow defence and were unable to serioiusly trouble Shaun Newman.

Derek Kennedy did come close though, hitting an effort from 20 yards which went inches wide of the top corner. Archie Sewell played a dangerous cross into the box late in the half which troubled the back-line but Calvin Smith wasn't able to get on the end of it.

The visiting fans were getting impatient with their team but eventually managed to open the scoring not long after the interval, former Arthurlie man Eddie McTernan heading into the corner of the net from a free-kick. The same player made it 2-0 with 20 minutes remaining, half-volleying a cross from the right flank past goalkeeper Paul McCann.

Ardeer's decision-making and final passes were letting them down up front for the most part. Their best chance of reducing the deficit came when Kennedy squared to substitute Kwaku Nyame who shot over the bar from 10 yards.
