GLENAFTON ATHLETIC 3

KILBIRNIE LADESIDE 1

BOTH teams made a very cautious start to this match and there were very few chances created within the opening 20 minutes.

It was the home side who created the first real opportunity in 21 minutes and this was also to be the opening goal.

With Glenafton having most of the possession a ball through from midfield found its way to Joe Andrew inside the Ladeside box and he took one touch before firing a shot beyond Joe Wilton into the net. David Gray then brought out a good save from Wilton two minutes later, hitting a long range shot from 30 yards towards goal.

Glenafton increased their lead on 25 minutes when a David Gray corner beyond the far post was hit back across goal by Kyle McAusland and Dale Moore reacted quickest to prod the ball high into the net.

Glenafton dominated most of the play and further efforts came from Chris Dallas, Jamie McKernon and Gray but they couldn't find the net.

Kilbirnie's only chance of the half fell to Reece Williamson on 39 minutes when he headed a Jon Scullion cross from the right wide.

Less than 30 seconds into the second half Glenafton were 3-0 when a ball into the box found Dallas and he was given too much room to turn before shooting past Wilton into the net.

Ladeside then made two changes, bringing on Peter McGill and James Finlay to add some pace to their attack but Glenafton threatened again and when Wilton missed a cross ball it was Reon Juskowiack who headed clear off the line.

Ladeside thought they had pulled a goal back when a corner into the box was cleared but McGill fired the ball back into the middle where Brian McGarrity spilled the ball and Finlay reacted to stab the ball into the net but the assistant referee had his flag up for offside.

Kilbirnie did pull a goal back when from a McGill corner in 85 minutes, Mick O'Byrne rose above the Glenafton defence to head the ball past McGarrity into the net.

The last chance fell to Williamson two minutes into stoppage time when he headed a Gavin Mitchell cross wide of target.
