DOMINOES: Billy Mitchell

Clyde Coast Ladies Domino League

MAMIE Deacon and Michelle McKinnie are the 2017 Scottish Doubles champions.

The marvellous Market Bar girls captured the title in Airdrie Workingmen’s Club, the official Venue Partner to Scottish Dominoes.

Having qualified through their local league, they faced tough opposition in every round, however they swept all before them to face North Ayrshire’s Archie Phillips and Alistair Muir in the final of the prestigious national event.

Phillips was taking part in his second National Doubles Final in successive years. He lost last year with partner Wattie Soutar who did not travel this time around due to prior commitments. Reputations however mean nothing to the Scottish members from the Clyde Coast League who just love lording it over their male counterparts at every opportunity and it was to prove no different this time around as the girls won a lot easier than the scoreline suggests.

They raced into a 3-0 lead in no time at all as the two men wondered what had hit them. The pendulum swung as Phillips and Muir clawed their way back into it on two occasions it has to be said with incredible luck however at three each the girls were not going to be denied and ran out convincing winners. All four qualify for the National Top Spot Finals in December, with Mamie and Michelle finishing fifth and sixth in the national rankings.
