HIGH-flying Beith have made a dream start to the season.

But boss Johnny Millar is keeping his feet firmly on the ground, despite Saturday's impressive 2-0 home win against one of their expected title rivals Auchinleck Talbot.

Millar, who won the league in 2010 and the Scottish Junior Cup two seasons ago, was delighted with the team's performance.

The Garnock Valley club have taken a maximum 15 points from their opening five matches.

He said: "We deserved to win as we dominated and could even have won by more. I am delighted with the result. But it's only a start and there's a long way to go."

Beith have a break on Saturday as they have a bye in the Scottish Junior Cup and it has come at a good time.

The boss added: "A few of the guys have niggles but they should have cleared up by the next game against Kilbirnie, which is one the players won't need any motivation for."

Three Beith players will feature in a challenge match away to Linlithgow Rose under the floodlights tonight (Wednesday). They are Keir Milliken, Nicky Docherty and David McKenna.

Meanwhile Kilbirnie Ladeside boss Budgie McGhie was disappointed to see his side lose 3-1 away to Glenafton Athletic.

He said: "We played the same side and used the same tactics as in the game we won against Hurlford but it didn't work out."

Ladeside on Saturday host Budgie's former side Clydebank, but the boss will be away on a pre-arranged holiday, leaving assistant Gordon Robertson in charge.

McGhie said: "It's a home game so we aim to win it."
