GIRVAN 1

KILBIRNIE LADESIDE 2

LADESIDE secured their third win in as many games with a two one victory away to Girvan.

The hosts who had the first clear chance when a headed back pass from Ross MacKinnon to Kieran Hughes was short of pace and Robert Patterson nipped in but the Ladeside keeper stood tall and blocked his shot from the edge of the box.

Kilbirnie responded with some great play on the right when Scullion back-heeled the ball onto Anderson who drove forward before playing the ball in to Finlay but he failed to make a good connection on the ball.

Ladeside started stringing passes together and Johnstone saved a low drive from MacKinnon before David Anderson found Jon Scullion but his 20-yard effort went just wide.

The visitors eventually took the lead in 29 minutes when a ball into Anderson on the edge of the box saw the midfielder's goalbound shot blocked by an arm but the ball fell to Finlay 12 yards out and when his effort smashed back off the crossbar Sweeney was well placed to slot the ball past Johnstone.

Kilbirnie doubled their lead five minutes later when Finlay beat his defender before feeding the ball to Peter McGill, who skipped through a couple of challenges before firing the ball home.

Ladeside could have gone further in front before half-time but Scullion's 25-yard shot was touched onto the post by Johnstone. Then Finlay headed a great cross just over the bar.

Girvan came out with a bit more purpose in the second half and Martin Reilly had a 25-yard effort saved by Hughes.

Girvan's Jack McDowall was lucky not to receive a second yellow after a late challenge on Anderson, having been booked early in the first half.

Kilbirnie then had a couple of chances when a mix-up in defence gifted the ball to Scullion who played in Finlay but he pulled his effort wide and then a Scullion corner found Ross Williamson who headed just wide.

Girvan continued pressing and Mitchell crossed for Reilly, who headed towards goal but Hughes pulled off a great save.

Paterson then had an effort from distance after the ball broke to him 25 yards out but his shot went well over and at the other end Anderson played the ball through to Scullion but his strike curled wide.

With nine minutes remaining, Girvan pulled a goal back when McDowall went on a run up the left before slipping the ball into Darren Mitchell inside the box and he fired it into the net.
