MEMBERS of Irvine Running Club and Ron's Runners got together again on Sunday to compete in the Chick Forbes Trophy Race.

The race is held annually in October as a tribute to the contribution Chick made to the sport of running both as a competitor and coach during his lifetime.

This year's competitors were blessed with a glorious autumn day as they competed over a two mile course starting and finishing at the Low Green. The event is held as a handicap with the slower runners starting first to be chased down by the low handicap runners as they wind their way round the pathways on Irvine Moor.

Lauren MacKenzie of Ron's Runners was one of the first off and she took full advantage of her handicap to establish an early lead. As the race unfolded Susan Rhodes of Irvine Running Club made a determined run through the field, overtaking ten runners in the process, in one of her most impressive performances. However MacKenzie also continued to run strongly and held her form to take the trophy with Rhodes second only six second behind and Pauline Steven of Ron's Runners in third place.

Paul Lafferty and Jennie Jackson of Irvine Running Club posted the fastest male and female scratch times of 10.53 and 13.36 respectively.

Chick's daughter, Roslyn Dunn, again travelled from her home in Dumfries to present the trophy.
