COMMONWEALTH Games medal success is being targeted by two talented Three Towns para bowlers.

Irene Edgar from Saltcoats and Ardrossan man David Thomas last Thursday found out they had earned a dream trip to the Gold Coast for the event in April, which comes four years after they secured silver medals in the Glasgow Games on the greens at Kelvingrove.

Teaming up with Irene in the Mixed Pairs event is playing partner Robert Barr from Glasgow with the duo recently securing a silver medal in the 2016 Eight Nations Championships at the Broad Beach venue which is hosting the Games in April.

Irene also clinched silver at this year's World Championships in South Africa.

The two local bowlers play at Ardrossan Indoor Bowling Club and Saltcoats Bowling Club.

Irene said: "I am absolutely delighted to be selected again and have been working hard on my game. We have a training camp coming up in Alicante which will help us prepare for the Games and at least we have played the greens which are being used.

"It was good to win silver last time but we want to go one better and take gold this time although it will be very tough."

David who will be Irene's Director at the Games, added: "We weren't sure if we would definitely be selected this time but it was great to be called up. There will be very strong competition, especially from the Australians and it will be difficult. But we always aim to win medals."

Janice Eaglesham, Chairperson, Scottish Disability Sport said: “Scottish Disability Sport is delighted to announce a strong field of players to compete in two medal events at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. Selection decisions were extremely difficult, but the five players and two directors that were chosen have a blend of experience, as well as a strong sense of team unity, which is vitally important for pairs and triples disciplines. We look forward to the Games with great optimism.”
