DEMANDING Kilbirnie Ladeside boss Budgie McGhie insists his side must play better - despite storming into the last 32 of the Scottish Junior Cup.

Ladeside defeated Lanark United 4-1 in a third round tie, however on Saturday they host high-flying Kilwinning Rangers in the McBookie Super League Premier Division.

The manager was encouraged with the result but insists there is room for improvement.

He said: “To be honest I'm pleased to be through as this game was a potential banana skin, one we were expected to win. It's great to be involved in the Scottish Junior Cup after Christmas. But we will have to play a lot better than on Saturday against Kilwinning to have a chance of winning the game.

“|This is the kind of game players want to be involved in. They beat us in the Ardagh Glass League Cup in August and hopefully we can make amends.

Saltcoats Victoria boss George Grierson was impressed with his team's display as they defeated promotion contenders Whitletts Vics 2-1 at Campbell Park. It was their second successive win following victory at Ardrossan Winton Rovers a month ago.”

He said: “We scored our second goal after they had gone to nine men but we had quite a few other chances and could have won by more. We are making good progress and it's difficult to know who to leave out.”

The Seasiders on Saturday host Irvine Vics and Grierson said: “It will be very tough as they are one of the favourites to go up but we aim to take something from the game.”
