NORTH Ayrshire Table Tennis Club (NATTC) hosted an entertaining and competitive British Premier League match on Saturday against top English team Ormesby.

After two five set matches and several close ones, Ormesby run away 8-0 winners.

Commonwealth and European champions Darius Knight and Danny Reed respectively, who are both in the top four in England, got Ormesby off to a good start with 3-0 wins against Chris Main and Dean Docherty.

Two younger members, Andy MacPherson and Martin Johnson played in the absence of Richard Main and Colin Dalgleish. Both put up a great fight losing two entertaining matches which went to four sets.

Johnson in took the first set 12-10 against Liam McTeirnan and then had chances in sets two and three before Liam's experience brought him home in four close sets.

Andy McPherson took the first set from Majet Mamut then lost the next three in close sets to go down 3-1, with McPherson playing his best table tennis of the season.

Despite being 4-0 down, North Ayrshire kept on fighting and lost two five-setters, with Sean Doherty coming back from 2-0 down to level with Knight and then losing 11-7 in the fifth.

On an adjacent table, Main and Mamut were having a titanic tussle, with the game going to the wire and Majet just edging it in the final set.

NATTC put up a good fight and with a good youth tourney in the morning and this produced their biggest crowd of the season to date. North Ayrshire are one of four teams on two points and everything to play for in the top league in the UK.
