BEITH teenage badminton ace Eleanor O'Donnell was given a huge boost ahead of her selection for next month's Commonwealth Games.

She secured a silver medal at the Portuguese International in Portugal.

Teaming up with Julie Macpherson, her partner on the Gold Coast, she lost out in Sunday's women's doubles final to Chinese Taipei pairing Li Zi Qing and Teng Chun Hsun.

Looking for a second international title of 2018, Macpherson and O'Donnell had been in good form all week but lost out 21-15 21-13 in 26 minutes.

"We were just not good enough today," said O'Donnell. "We are a bit disappointed with the performance after a solid performance on Saturday. The Taipei pair came out strong and were the better pair today. The Commonwealth Games is our next event and after a few good wins this week we can't wait to get out there and play.

"We're back to training for final preparations."

The Scottish pairing started well to go 4-0 up but then fell 10-9 behind and didn't recover in the first game.

The second followed a similar pattern, with O'Donnell and Macpherson first leading before the Chinese Taipei pairing took over.
