KILMARNOCK 0

ABERDEEN 2

FORM team Killie's hopes of pulling off a remarkable seventh straight win were scuppered by an Aberdeen side still smarting from their Scottish Cup semi-final defeat against Motherwell.

The Dons had the lion's share of play in the first half and early on when Scott McKenna latched on to Stevie May's free-kick with a header which forced a vital save from Leo Fasan.

Then Kenny McLean shot just over the bar from long range as the northerners continued to dominate. However Killie were still very much in it and visiting goalie Joe Lewis had to be at his best to save a rasping drive from Alan Power.

McLean saw his shot blocked before Greg Stewart shot narrowly over the bar as the visitors took a grip on the game.

And their persistence paid off in 37 minutes when McLean won the ball some 25 yards and let fly with a left foot rocket into the bottom corner.

Three minutes later Killie were unlucky not to level when Eamonn Brophy saw his long range attempt glance narrowly wide.

Just after the break, home veteran striker Kris Boyd saw his effort blocked before sending a header inches over the top.

However in 59 minutes the Dons doubled their tally after Fasan had parried an Anthony O'Connor header and Shay Logan pounced to knock the rebound home.

The home goalie then foiled Graeme Shinnie with a fine stop.

Late on a Power shot was deflected wide and a Stephen O'Donnell cross was cleared by Kari Arnason.

Killie boss Steve Clark said later: "We were missing some influential guys and it was disruptive but there are no excuses."
