GARNOCK 63

OBAN LORNE 0

FREE-scoring Garnock defeated the west coast side for a second time this season.

The clubs had a close game earlier in the campaign at Oban, with the visitors just coming out on top.

However with Garnock in a rich vein of form recently and Oban languishing in the relegation zone, a home victory was expected at Lochshore and so it proved.

In perfect underfoot conditions the hosts ran in NINE tries, all converted by man of the match, young scrum half Keir Walker, some from difficult angles.

Playing into a slight breeze, Garnock were quickly on the scoreboard with captain Matt Shiells dotting down after a good lead up by stand off Gareth McCrorie. They doubled the score in 10 minutes when winger Fraser Brocket gathered a neat kick ahead by Walker.

Oban's big forwards were trying hard to dominate but the home scrum produced lots of quality ball. The backs were guilty of losing too much possession, and couldn't increase the score until 30 minutes when centre Jared Reekie jinked his way over the line after a lineout in the right hand corner to make the score 21-0 at half- time.

Oban were unlucky to lose two players through injury and the home team, running the ball at every opportunity, scored tries regularly in the second half.

Full-back Chrissie Neil, substitute centre Danny Irvine and number eight Stuart Wilson run in nice tries and Reekie added two to complete his hat-trick.

Late in the game Keir Walker finished off a satisfactory afternoon with a try after a typical sniping run from the base of a scrum, which he of course converted.
