KILMARNOCK 1

JUBILANT Kilmarnock boss Steve Clarke insists all the credit for a record Premiership points total goes to the players after they rounded off the season on Sunday with a fine win.

They have amassed 59 points - their best tally since the introduction of three points for a win back in 1994.

Kris Boyd is also the first Killie player to finish as the top league scorer in the top flight. He scored 23 goals in all competitions in 2017-18. The weekend win means they have equalled their record number of wins in a single campaign since the Scottish League was re-constructed in 1975.

Clarke, who received the Scottish Football Writers' Award on Saturday night said after the match: "Credit must go to the players, this squad have taken us from the bottom of the league to the top five. The trophy I won is is for the players, the supporters and the backroom staff. Thanks a lot for your support. There has been a positive atmosphere around the club and it was important we didn't send the fans home disappointed with the result."

Killie began well and in three minutes Stephen O'Donnell set up Greg Kiltie but he shot straight at visiting goalie Jack Hamilton. In 10 minutes Youssouf Mulumbu set up Aaron Tshibola but Hamilton saved again.

However only seconds later, Lee Erwin made the most of a poor pass from Harry Cochrane to send a low shot rolling under the goalie's body and into the net.

In 18 minutes Kris Boyd sent a free-kick fizzing narrowly wide.

Late on, Hamilton foiled Boyd and Erwin. Stuart Findlay was then unlucky with two headers as Killie continued to dominate and they easily saw out the game.
