GLITTERING prizes were secured by North Ayrshire Table Tennis Club at a prestigious national event.

The Saltcoats-based club had 15 of their top performing players competing in the prestigious National Championships at Bells Sport Centre in Perth.

It was fantastic to see so many local players progressing to the latter stages of their age group event in such a high level competition.

Martin Johnson lived up to his top seed billing, winning the U15 Boys National title without dropping a set.

He beat an in-form Yifie Fang (Aberdeen) 3-0 in a fast-paced final.

Martin also teamed up with Danny Bajwa to win the Junior Doubles title, saving several match points v top seeded pairing of Keir Morton (Dumfries) & Calum Morrison (Edinburgh) to win the National Junior Boys Title. Martin has also recently got selected for his second European Youth Championships, this year in Romania.

Jess Hogg who has won several national ranking competitions this season in the U13 Girls age group, topped her season off in dominant style, becoming U13 Girls National Champion. Jess won in straight sets against Hannah McDonell (Penicuik) in the final.

Jamie Johnson was beaten finalist in the U13 Boys Singles Event, losing out to Aberdeen's Borui Chen in the final. Jamie showed his class as he advanced from his initial group stage all the way to the final. Notable wins over up and coming players Kris Taylor (South Ayrshire) in the quarter-final and Edinburgh’s Charlie McGowan in the semi-final.

Ardrossan's Jill Taylor, alongside Alisa Khalid successfully paired up in the womens' doubles event, working their way to the final with a fine three sets to one win over Aberdeen's top pairing Isla Scott and Tessau Yau. Jill and Alisa went down in the final to top seeds Rebecca Plaistow and Lucy Elliott.

Chris Main reached the quarter-finals of the Men's Singles, where he drew Scottish number two Craig Howieson, losing out 3-1 in a tense and entertaining match.

In the men's doubles event, Chris teamed up with British Premier League team mate Sean Doherty. Chris and Sean navigated their way to the semi-finals where they overcame the challenge of ex Scottish Internationalists Niall Cameron and Stewart Crawford to reach the final of the men's doubles. In the final, Chris and Sean lost out to the top seeds in a close 3-1 match.

Other notable performances came from Chad Duncan, who reached the last 16 of the U15 boys, Holly McNamara who progressed to semi finals of U15 Girls event with Nathan Hogg reaching the quarter-finals of the U13 Boys competition.
