A TALENTED teenage Kilbirnie table tennis ace is celebrating after winning a hat-trick of national titles.

Rebecca Plaistow (18) recently won the Ladies Singles Scottish National Championship for the second time on May 5, as well as the mixed doubles with her partner Colin Dalgleish and the Ladies Doubles with Lucy Elliot.

The teenager was "very happy" to have won the title having had a disappointing tournament the year before. She felt ‘under pressure’ to perform well this year -the pressure coming from herself not others and was more than satisfied with her performance in the group stage - where she lost only one set against four strong opponents, including last year’s runner-up Faye Leggett (who battled through a tough five-setter against Alisa Khalid). Plaistow was tested by Lara Stirling in the semi-finals but made it through 3-0.

Two years ago when she won the Ladies Singles title in the 2016 Scottish National Table Tennis Championships in Perth, as well as the Junior Girls (under 18) title for the second consecutive year. She won the Junior Girls title again last year for the third time, as well as the senior Mixed Doubles and Ladies Doubles.

Rebecca has just finished her First Year at Glasgow Caledonian University studying Dietetics and Nutrition. She is a former pupil of St Bridget's Primary, Kilbirnie, she first attended an after school table tennis club run by Sean Doyle, and then St Matthew's Academy in Saltcoats

She plays for South Ayrshire A team who recently won the West of Scotland League First Division for the second consecutive year, and in the Scottish National League they won the Second Division title, earning promotion to the First Division next season.

Rebecca also plays for Drumchapel Table Tennis Club in the British League and also the British Women's League. She has represented Scotland internationally for six years and is currently competing with the Scottish Ladies team in the European Championship qualifiers.

She would like to thank the Nurturing Excellence Programme for their financial support and John McMillan at KA Leisure. She would also like to thank South Ayrshire and SportsScotland for grants she has received.

Rebecca is currently looking for sponsorship.
