NORTH Ayrshire Ice Hockey club were on their travels again last weekend as the Devils took part in Sheffield Academy’s annual tournament.

Due to other commitments, some players couldn’t travel, which meant the North Ayrshire side had to guest three former players who are now with Murrayfield - Jamie Miller, Sean Woods and Haydn Woods.

Devils stated their intent right from the first game against Milton Keynes, Ryan Campbell opened the scoring. Jamie Miller added a second soon after captain TJ Wright added a third before Jamie Miller doubled his account. Even a late goal from Milton Keynes wasn’t enough to worry the Devils who finished 4-1 winners.

The second game saw the local side take on the home side Sheffield Rapiers. Jamie Miller opened the scoring adding to his tally. TJ Wright added a second late on in the game to secure the victory.

Devils then finished the first day off in style with a very convincing 6-0 victory against Nottingham.

The second day didn’t start off as expected for the Devils with a tough game against Deeside, which they lost 1-0.

This left the North Ayrshire team needing a win in their last game to reach the final against an unbeaten Solent side. Solent pushed the Devils throughout the tie as both teams were looking for the opening goal. Ryan Campbell broke the deadlock late in the game then sealed a North Ayr victory with a second with minutes left on the clock, booking the Devils place in the final.

The North Ayrshire club went on to meet Solent in the final showdown and were confident of another victory. They were fast off the blocks and took an early lead from Miller. With a second soon added, determined Devils managed to put the tie beyond a stunned Solent, eventually running out 5-0 winners.

Club media officer Kirsty Massie said: "We are so happy for our team - what a way to end the season, not only for the team but also for the club. Hopefully this is a sign of what's to come in the new season."

North Ayrshire Ice Hockey Club are also looking for players at all age groups except under 12's to bolster their numbers. Volunteers are also needed for roles including goal judges, penalty box attendants, door supervisors, a match night announcer and DJ.
