PROLIFIC striker David Adams has high hopes that Ardrossan Winton Rovers can challenge for promotion after signing up from Irvine Vics.

Adams is one of EIGHT new recruits to come with manager Stevie Wilson from the Westenders.

Also on board are David Wilson, Sean Mears, Rory Campbell, Chris Lamb David Smith, Kenny Parris and Brandon McEvoy.

Adams said: "I was at Vics for five years and scored 60 to 70 goals over 100 games and did well but I felt it was time for something different, it's good to work with a manager I have worked with before.

"We will have some good games in the league cup against the likes of Kilbirnie and Beith and we will be looking to qualify. We want to go up another league and hopefully eventually into the top one. It's good I know a lot of the guys from Vics. We have a good group of players. The opening League One game away to Perthshire will be a tough one but the good thing is I played against quite a few of the teams who are in the league with Irvine Vics. We have nothing to fear and will try and get promoted. I scored 24 goals last season and always like to do better than I did last time."

Smith is excited about the new challenge and said: "We did okay last season but I felt it was time for a new challenge. The park at Winton is decent and that was an attraction. The training is going well. I haven't missed a training session in three weeks. It's a good set up with a big committee, hopefully I can get a game every week. It's a tough section in the league cup but the league will mostly be Central District teams. We want to win the league.

Lamb, who spent five years at Vics Park, won a league title and was twice promoted, is looking forward to teaming up again with Wilson, with whom he was at Irvine Vics, Ardeer Thistle and Saltcoats Vics.

He feels it will take time for the players to settle and said: "This season will be a building job but hopefully the boys can kick on, we have some good players and will hopefully get the best out of them. I don't see why we can't go up as the squad is big enough."

Winger Mears, who was at Victoria Park for two years, is excited at joining Winton.

He added: "There's a great set up at the club and I am enjoying it so far. We want to win the league, I was promoted with Irvine Vics last season. We seem to have a good bunch of boys and will hopefully do well."
