Donnie McManus KSC Shield Final

DIRRANS ATHLETIC 3

ARDROSSAN CASTLE ROVERS 1

DOMINANT Dirrans won the showpiece event for the fourth year running, defeating North Ayrshire rivals in Friday night's final at Kilwinning Sports Club.

The game started slow but burst into life when Ardrossan were awarded a soft penalty in eight minutes, which was put away by Raymond McBreen.

Dirrans battled hard to get back into the game and was back on level terms in 20 minutes. A cross from Dirrans player Stuart Walker into the box was diverted into the goal by Ardrossan defender Craig Breen, who tried to chest it to his keeper only to hit his shoulder and go over him to make it 1-1.

Dirrans pressed for more goals and eventually got in front when a ball into the box again from Walker wasn't cleared and Chris Bennett fired home from six yards.

After the break the Kilwinning side went at Castle, whose goalkeeper Lewis Campbell made a superb save from a Brian Strain free-kick in 53 minutes.

Dirrans player Alan Frew had the ball in the net but was adjudged offside in 58 minutes.

Frew eventually got on the scoresheet in 61 minutes when Jamie Dunlop burst into the box and fired a shot across goal which was converted by Frew.

Campbell produced another great save from Ryan McLeod in 64 minutes.

Ardrossan were limited to only a few chances from outside the box but Ross Stewart command his box. Dirrans were reduced to 10 men in 75 minutes when Mark Easton was sent off for a second booking. Dirrans saw the game. There was a decent crowd and both clubs would like to thank all the supporters who attended the game.
