NEWCOMERS Livingston proved to be tough opponents for Killie as they held Steve Clark's men at the Tony Macaroni Arena.
Kenny Miller's hosts were playing their first home Premiership game for 12 years as they unveiled their controversial new plastic pitch which proved difficult to play on.
Killie went into the game without Lee Erwin, who was on transfer talks with Istanbul club Tractor Sazi.
Early on, Livi carved out the first opening when Shaun Byrne set up Steven Lawless at the edge of the box, but his effort was well saved by visiting goalie Jamie MacDonald.
On the half hour Killie came desperately close when an error by Craig Halkett allowed Jordan Jones to race down the left and he found Chris Burke at the back post but the former Rangers striker slid in and cannoned his effort off the post.
Just after this Miller flicked on to Scott Robinson, whose attempted lob was too weak.
Early in the second half, Burke found Stephen O'Donnell but the full-back shot straight at Kelly.
The last chance of the match saw visiting player Greg Kiltie shoot straight at the goalie.
Killie boss Steve Clark said afterwards: "We put ourselves on the back foot by not dealing better with the game."
KILMARNOCK: MacDonald; O'Donnell, Taylor, Broadfoot, Power, Dicker, K Boyd, Jones, Ndjoli (I Wilson 65) S Boyd (Brophy 71) Burke (Kiltie 83). Subs not used: Bachman, Higgins, Waters, Thomas.
