ARDROSSAN WINTON ROVERS 1

SHOTTS BON ACCORD 2

WINTON went into this game looking to get back to winning ways following two draws against a Shotts side who had put six past Lugar the previous weekend.

Chris Lamb had not recovered from the knock he received at Maybole and Scott Watson was in goals.

Shotts almost made a dream start when Adam Hunter hit a post from about 25 yards and the rebound was cleared in the opening minute.

Winton’s first attempt came in five minutes when they won a free-kick but Lee Davidson’s ball to the back post was to high for Graham Longair.

David Adams had a good chance in 14 minutes when he chased a clearance then cut into the box but shot over the bar.

It was now end-to-end stuff and in 18 minutes a Shotts free kick by Jordan Craig from the edge of the box was deflected wide.

Winton won a corner in 22 minutes. The ball was then cleared and from the resultant long throw-in the ball landed at the feet of Rory Campbell who miskicked 10 yards out .

Rovers were on top and playing some good football but couldn’t find the back of the net.

In 26 minutes Rory Campbell kept possession on the bye line inside the box but there were no takers for his ball into the goalmouth.

Winton’s failure to capitalise on their pressure and chances cost them dear in 31 minutes when a ball from the right fell to an unmarked Danny Burns who had plenty of space and time to turn and shoot past Watson to put the visitors 1-0 ahead. With a minute of the half remaining David Smith made a vital tackle on Danny Burns to stop him bursting into the box but picked up a knock and was unable to continue.

Rovers made a bright start to the second period and a good move down the left saw Jamie McKenna try to pass the ball rather than shooting from a good position in the 47 minutes and the danger was cleared.

Shotts first real attempt of the second half came on 57 minutes when they won a free-kick on the right in line with the edge of the 18-yard box but it was dealt with easily by the defence.

Winton then had a claim for penalty not given when a David Cunningham cross appeared to hit a defender’s hand.

It was almost all Winton and in 62 minutes a good move down the right saw the ball laid back to David Cunningham on the edge of the box but he shot wide. In 70 minutes a good move down the left saw Craig Crawford’s pass back to Murdoch intercepted by Jamie McKenna, but all he was able to do with the ball was play it into the keeper’s hands.

Three minutes later Watson made a good save from a Craig Smith header.

In 77 minutes an attempted clearance by Murdoch hit a player and spun back towards the goal but Winton couldn't take advantage and the keeper recovered the loose ball.

Winton finally got the goal their pressure warranted when Watson played the ball out to Sean Mears on the left and his ball to the edge of the box was picked up by Adams who got into the box and fired home from about 15 yards to make it 1-1 in 85 minutes.

Rovers lost all three points two minutes into time added on when Aitken headed home a long throw - in from the right.
