McBookie League Two

SALTCOATS VICTORIA 1

NEWMAINS UNITED 2

THIS was a game of two halves as Saltcoats had the better of the opening period while Newmains took control after the break.

There were also a host of yellow cards with a red also being dished out to the Seasiders.

It took time for both teams to settle. However, Saltcoats were looking the most likely to create something positive. Saltcoats got the opener during the first half from top scorer and player/manager Evariste Bembo.

While it was an accomplished first half performance, some Saltcoats fans felt that another goal would have made for an easier second half and their prophesies proved to be true.

At the start of the second period, it was obvious Newmains were hungry to score. Midway through, Newmains scored a fairly scrappy goal when the Saltcoats defence did not clear their lines well enough.

Newmains looked to have scored again but they were adjudged to be offside. Saltcoats supporters agreed with the referee, while Newmains fans thought the referee had got it wrong.

While there was still life in the match and with some time to go, Newmains scored the winner.

Late in the game Saltcoats defender, Kevin Onanu was sent off.

It was a good win for Newmains and a frustrating day for Saltcoats.

Next up for the Seasiders is a trip to Perthshire to face Kinnoull in the Scottish Junior Cup on Saturday.
