KILMARNOCK 1

By Stewart McConnell

THE Fleeting brothers were massive players at Kilmarnock three decades ago, with chairman Bobby helping rebuild Rugby Park and manager Jim helping win promotion to the First Division.

Now two decades on the name another family is to the fore, with the name Millen is re-emerging.

Ross Millen, son of Andy - a key acquisition during chairman Fleeting's tenure and now the Rugby Park reserve coach - made his mark with a goal in his first top flight start as Killie sent high-flying Killie crashing back down to earth.

The victory saw Steve Clarke's side soar into third place.

Jubilant Ross said: "I think my dad may have tackled a few when he was here but never scored. It's a great feeling though. This time last year I was playing away to Albion Rovers and now I'm playing against Hearts for a team in top three of the Premiership."

Killie began well and in the opening minute, Aaron Tshibola slipped a pass to Chris Burke, who was one-on-one with Bobby Zlamal, but his effort was easily saved by the home goalie.

At the other end Peter Haring fizzed an effort wide.

On-loan visiting goalie Dan Bachmann, in for Scotland call-up Jamie MacDonald, then made a great stop from Ben Garuccio after Olly Lee had set him up.

Killie then twice came close from a Kris Boyd free-kick and a 25-yard effort from Mikael Ndjoli.

However with 17 minutes left Killie snatched victory when Greg Taylor and Chris Burke teamed up to find Millen on the right edge of the box and he smashed a shot through the home goalie's legs to complete a famous win.
