NORTH Ayrshire Ice Hockey Club team The Wild took Solway in a Scottish National League match at Auchenharvie Ice Rink in Stevenston on Saturday.

Solway turned up short-handed, but that didn't mean they were a team to take lightly. Indeed they scored the first goal with some skilful skating and stick handling. But Wild weren’t going to lie down and produced a good flow of hockey resulting in the first period ending 3-2 to the Wild. For the second period, the Wild were out to play for the win and gave a good display of hockey showing that we know they are capable of, providing they stay out the penalty box. Solway still produced some nice hockey at times and this period ended 6-2 to The Wild.

The third period tends to be their best period and Wild were putting pressure on the Stingrays and their second goalie right from the start resulting in 25 shots on their goal with seven finding the way through.

All in all it was what hockey is all about; flowing hockey from both sides, Solway were a good team even short handed.

Final Score: North Ayrshire Wild 13-3 Solway Stingrays. Man of the Match: Martin Cardo, who scored four of the 13 goals.
