PROMOTION-chasing Winton saw their hopes suffer a setback as they were held in their final home match.

Bellshill made the better start and in two minutes Chris Lamb made a save at the near post with his feet from Paul Brennan.

Winton’s first real chance came in 15 minutes when a good break down the park saw David Adams find Chris Wilson. His shot was blocked, and the ball broke to Michael Wardrope, but his weak shot was collected comfortably by Christopher Fitzpatrick.

In 22 minutes, Michael Lennox went close with a 25-yard free-kick.

Winton kept pressing and in 31 minutes a David Smith shot from 30yards brought out a great save from Fitzpatrick.

Rovers were now on top and creating all the chances but couldn’t make them count. In 32 minutes some good play ended with a Jamie McKenna back post header comfortably saved by the goalie.

Bellshill’s first real attempt on goal since the opening 15 minutes saw Jamie Stewart shoot well over the bar in 33 minutes.

Five minutes later a Hunter cross was met by Jamie McKenna but his header hit the top of the bar and went over. In a poor second half, Winton created more chances. Jamie McKenna had the first chance after the restart when he chased a clearance to the edge of the box and although he held off two defenders, his angled shot from just inside the box went narrowly over the bar. Rovers were dealt a blow three minutes into the second half when Lennox who had picked up a knock in the first 45 minutes was unable to continue and was replaced by Dylan Stevenston ‘Hill were reduced to 10 men when Marc Houston was shown a second yellow card in 63 minutes.
