Ardrossan Indoor Bowling Club member Jamie Noon won the Scottish Young Indoor Bowlers Association title last month in Falkirk.
The Young Masters event is run every year, to find the country’s outstanding young singles player.
In previous years, the two best players from the qualifying event appeared in the televised final at Perth’s Dewar Centre as part of the World Bowls Tour’s Scottish Open.
However this year, with the cancellation of the Scottish Open, the event was played to a finish on the day.
Noon, who attends Prestwick Academy, found himself up against both of the other Ayrshire representatives in the randomly drawn sectional stage.
The Prestwick youngster faced off against Luke Jones from Ayr and Kieran Hamilton from Auchinleck, and qualified with a 100 per cent record to reach the knock out stage.
In the best of the two set semi final, Jamie lost the first set to Aaron Miller from Abbeyview Bowling Club in Dunfermline, before fighting back and prevailing 2-0 in the best of three ends tie break.
In the final against Amy Borthwick from Midlothian, Jamie initially had no answer to Amy’s drawing game, and lost the first set 11-2.
However, rallying at the start of the second, he took a three shot lead with four ends remaining.
However, Amy grabbed a single shot at each of the next three ends to pull it back to 5-5 with one end to go.
The final bowl of the set saw Jamie needing to draw within a foot to keep his hopes alive, and responded brilliantly, drawing to within two inches.
In the first end of the tie break, Jamie opted not to play his final bowl, and had to rely on a measure to secure the end.
In the last bowl of the second end Amy’s final delivery missed the jack and Jamie’s shot bowl, and the match was over.
Noon was crowned the 2021 champion and joins a long list of winners from former club Prestwick Ambassador Indoor Bowling Club.
He joins Rebecca Houston who won the same accolade in 2017 and Ross Gouldstone who was awarded the title in 2019 to be the latest winner to have previously bowled out of Prestwick Ambassador Indoor Bowling Club.
