AN AYRSHIRE man who has already made history representing his nation in the sport of bowls is set to pull on the jersey again.
George Miller, of Saltcoats Bowling Club, became Scotland’s oldest ever Commonwealth Games athlete when he turned out as director in the B2/B3 mixed pairs para lawn bowls event for athlete Melanie Innes.
Not only that, but George and his partner, along with fellow Scottish pairing Robert Barr, and his director Sarah Jane Ewing, came through the competition to win the gold medal.
And it was announced late last week that once again George would be directing visually impaired bowlers for Scotland.
He was named as the only Ayrshire athlete in Team Scotland’s side for the 2023 Para Home Nations which will see Scotland battle it out with Wales and England for the title.
The event will take place at Newport Indoor Bowls Centre from Friday, April 21 until Sunday, April 23.
Visually impaired singles and pairs matches will make up part of the weekend’s play, which will also include physically disabled singles, pairs and triples.
