KILWINNING Rangers manager Chris Aitken was running out of superlatives to describe his side after watching them pull off a big shock in the South Challenge Cup.
Aitken admitted he was "down to the bare bones" when it came to selecting a squad for Saturday's tie against Albion Rovers - but it didn't show as Buffs dominated their visitors and sealed a last 16 place with a thumping 3-0 win.
Kilwinning were one of only two Ayrshire sides to earn a place in the last 16 of the competition having picked up what many supporters, Buffs fans and neutrals alike, picked as the 'result of the round'.
The Buffs were more than good value for their win against a team two divisions ahead of them - a victory earned thanks to a double from Mark Lamont, which included a stunning free-kick, and a superb finish from Gavin Millar.
Even more impressively, the squad featured four of the club's under 20 players who showed experience far beyond their years in the victory.
Speaking to Kilwinning Rangers TV (KRTV) after the game, boss Chris Aitken was running out of superlatives to describe his side.
He told the club's social media team: “I thought, from the first minute, we were excellent. We were really at it, from the first minute to the last, and some of our play was sensational.
“We were up against it against a really good team who are two leagues above us - but my squad showed exactly what we are trying to do at this club.
“I had four or five so-called big hitters out today. I was down to the bare bones, but the ones who came in put on a really good performance.
“Some of the goals were breathtaking. My guys, to a man, were outstanding.
“I think we had five or six under 20 boys from the [club's] academy, I think it shows where we are going as a club - we’re going in the right direction.”
