CLARK DRIVE GIRLS 17s made it two league wins in a row with a 2-1 away victory in Greenock against a plucky Morton team.

The game was very scrappy in the first half, but Drive’s keeper and her opposite number had to be lively at times. First up was Sophie Taggart of Drive, when she dived and showed great handling to keep out a great shot from the Morton forward. Then the home side’s keeper produced two great saves from great efforts by Nicola Fisher to keep the score level at half time.

The second half came to life just three minutes in, when Niamh Cowan opened the scoring for Drive. Her initial shot was saved but the rebound came back to her and she skipped past an opponent before calmly firing past the keeper to put Drive ahead.

Morton tried to respond quickly with their striker firing just over the bar a minute later.

Clark Drive made a substitution in 52 minutes with Brogan Love coming on for Robyn Dickie. The visitors nearly went further ahead with 10 minutes remaining when Megan Bunce showed great close control but saw her shot saved well by the home side’s keeper.

Drive made it 2-0 with five minutes left when Lidia Carbonal slotted the ball home, showing great composure.

The home side made sure they had a grandstand finish when they reduced the deficit with just two minutes left. Sophie Taggart made a great save but the Morton striker scored from the rebound. However Drive held on to claim all three points.

CLARK DRIVE U15s edged out Cumbernauld Colts 3-2 on Saturday.

Unfortunately on what was a cracking morning for a scheduled league match. However the match referee didn’t show up and without an official both teams agreed to play a friendly.

It was a great work-out for both teams and with the Drive girls bringing in three of their U13s, it certainly proved to be a worthwhile exercise.

All the girls put in a great shift, we passed the ball really well and created numerous chances and scored some cracking goals. The girls now look forward to a cup tie against Central Girls next Saturday at Marress.

A big thank you to Morgan Wilkie, Jemma Bruce and Olivia Wearing for helping out and it augers well for the future that out of the 14 girls who played today five can still play U13s.

BOTH Clark Drive U9 teams has two games on Saturday against much-improved Kilbirnie sides.

Katie Gallacher, Alicia Purdie, Kendyl Daddy, Cara McConville and a new player from Castlepark Primary School, Amie Brown were on one side and Katie Matchett, Katie Kelly, Lauryn Hutchison, Haylie Allison and Niamh Crilly were on the other. Again there were plenty of goals with Niamh and Katie M scoring and Katie G, Kendyl and Cara scoring for the other side.

The pleasing aspect of thnbe games were that both sides were better at keeping their shape and this allowed a much better team performance.

Drive would also like to say a big welcome to Amie Brown from Castlepark Primary School where they have just finished some coaching sessions. She joins Kendyl, who made her Drive debut last week.

The U9s were also able to field two u9 teams in a recent festival at Marress.

The girls were brilliant with the three Katie on the scoresheet and Charlotte and Haylie also netting. The three U7s in the side, Sophie Alicia and Niamh acquitted themselves well.

Sunday sees the U9s entertain a new Crosshouse side.

Again a big thanks to all parents for their continued support.
