DELIGHTED Buffs co-boss Chris Strain Jnr saluted goalkeeper Marc Fisher for saving two penalties in a nerve-jangling shootout as their side saw off much-improved Darvel in the showpiece competition, Strain said: “Marc was suffering with an ankle injury but we had no back-up goalie so he played on. He made two great saves in the shootout to help us through and showed great commitment to the team. It’s great to be through as Darvel were much tougher opponents than a couple of weeks ago when we beat them 7-1 at home in the league,” Back to the action and Buffs began well, with Michael Hart, Dean Agnew and Robbie Weir all missing early chances. However they took the lead in 38 minutes when Barry Fleeting moved down the channels and sent a precision pass to Willie McLaren to slot the ball home from just inside the box to notch his second goal in two games.

Darvel finished strongly in the second half and levelled with literally the last kick of the ball. Fisher, hampered by an ankle injury, sent his kick out to a visiting striker who set up Jordan Ryan to knock the ball home.

In the shootout, Ben Lewis, Isaac Kerr and Tommy Maitland were on target, with John Bardford and Weir missing, Fisher then saved two Darvel spot=klics, Calvin Kemp netted to seal victory for the Abbey Parkers.

KILWINNING RANGERS: Fisher; Weir, Fleeting, Kerr, McGowan, Maitland, Agnew, McLaren, Hart, Lewis, Kemp. Subs: Quigley, Hunter, Hamill, Bradford, Anderson.
