CLINICAL Castle won the James Scott Trophy for the first time in 27 years at Ardeer Stadium on Friday night.

After two previous league defeats against ‘Tiber they had a point to prove.

The game started with Castle on the front foot.

Man-of-the-match Sommerville was a constant threat on the right hand side of the park and caused Tiber left back a lot of problems.

The first goal came from a good move down the right hand side of the park, The ball eventually falling for Duncan who crossed for Brookes to head past the keeper.

Castle maintained their pressure and again some good work down the right led to an opportunity for Chesney to stroke the ball calmly into the top left hand corner of the net to make it 2-0. A great finish from the no10. The third came just before halftime again constant pressure on the Tiber goal when G. Kean scooped the ball into the net from close range. Both Castle wingers were a constant threat.

The second half started with ‘Tiber desperate to get back into the game. A couple of half chances were dealt with by the Castle defence, with Noon showing a safe pair of hands.

Castle notched their fourth goal after great play with some good interchanging passes, leading to Brookes rifling the ball past the Tiber goalkeeper. It was a great finish by the veteran.

With the game running away from ‘Tiber they started to loose their discipline but the Castle held firm to secure a fantastic result.

The match was a good advert for amateur football and gave the large crowd value for money.

Thanks go to the Ardeer Thistle FC committee for providing hospitality for both teams after the game.

ARDROSSAN CR: Noon; Stewart, Bickerton, D Kean, Knight, Sommerville, Milligan, Chesney, G Kean, Brookes, Duncan. Subs, McCann, Dunlop, Spears, Logan, Canavan.
