ONCE again Winton paid the price for squandered opportunities as they suffered a second successive defeat in the Super First Division.

The visitors competed well in the first half and came close in 20 minutes when a shot from skipper Ryan Caddis rebounded off the keeper and broke back to former Ayr United striker John Bradford, but he failed to connect, Chris Strain Snr’s side were unlucky again 10 minutes after the break when Caddis made a run into the box but looked on in agony as his effort crashed off the crossbar.

Eight minutes later the Lanarkshire side took the lead with a goal from Gary McGrath.

Winton almost levelled 10 minutes from time when a great move saw Ben Carson and Bradford combine with Jared Willet, whose shot was saved by the keeper.

However the visitors saw their hopes of taking anything from the game were dashed two minutes from time as Gareth Turner lost possession to Gary Millar, who slotted home.
