BEITH JUNIORS 2000s

ST ANDREWS 0

BEITH JUNIORS 4

BEITH returned to the tail of the bank on to Saturday, looking to restore some pride for the league drubbing they suffered at the same venue back in November.

The draw for the Tom McPhillips Cup paired the teams together again and the hosts most probably had their chickens counted when recollecting that earlier 7-0 victory.

However the Beith lads, fresh from their higher Maths Prelim exam the previous day, had obviously taken inspiration from Greek philosopher/scientist Aristotle who said the whole was greater than the sum of its parts, because every one of the lads played their own part, and the sum of those parts manifested itself in a commanding performance.

Beith were quick out of the traps and took the lead within three minutes through Lee Salisbury. The visitors continued to bully possession throughout the first half, with Lewis Steele grabbing a deserved second and Cammy King saving a fortuitously awarded penalty.

The hosts, unable to cope with Beith’s speed of attack or accuracy in the tackle, resorted to rough-house tactics in the second half to try and unsettle the lads but to no avail as they faced it head on, stood up to it as a team and scored a further two goals, through Lewis and Ryan Brown.

This was as well as Beith have played in many a long day.

Revenge was sweet and deserved.

BEITH squad: Cammy King, Matthew Sloan, Ross MacKenzie, Jake Jacobson, Jack Craig, Graeme Crawford, Scott Brown, Lee Salisbury, Lewis Steele, Ryan Brown, Cameron Blair, Owen Bryce.
