HISTORY was made at last Wednesday as a Saltcoats school won a top football competition for the first time in their history.
St Matthew's Academy lifted the Ayrshire Schools Under-14 Cup, defeating Kilmarnock Academy 4-2 on penalties following a 3-3 draw.
They played in front of a sizeable support.
Now they are on course for a treble.
Coach Jon Cumming said: "They are a really talented team and deserved to win the game. It has been a good year as the lads won the Bobby Lennox Trophy at Winton Park a few weeks ago and we also have the quarter-finals of the Lisbon Lions Trophy at Toryglen on Thursday."
